Felicity: Hi, my name is Felicity, and today I’ll be interviewing Annie from 88 Keys Music Academy. Annie, could you tell us a little bit about your background as the founder of 88 Keys Music Academy and your relationship with the company?

Annie: Hi, Felicity! Thanks for having me. So, we started 88 Keys about 12 years ago, and I’m the founder and CEO. A little about me: I earned my Master’s in Piano Performance from USC. I’ve been involved in music for a long time—teaching and helping kids since I was 16 years old. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I truly enjoy sharing music with the community.

Felicity: That’s amazing! Teaching music sounds very rewarding. I have a couple of questions for you, especially for parents who might be considering lessons for their kids. Since we’re talking during wintertime, which often includes school breaks, why do you think music lessons are beneficial for kids?

Annie: There are so many benefits to music lessons for children! For one, they’re fantastic for cognitive development. Learning music helps with memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. In fact, research shows that kids who study music often perform better in subjects like math and reading.

Beyond academics, music helps with emotional intelligence. It provides kids with a way to express themselves and manage their emotions. It also teaches discipline—learning an instrument takes practice, and that process builds focus and patience. Plus, mastering a song or performing on stage boosts their confidence. It’s not just about music; it’s about shaping well-rounded, confident individuals.

Felicity: Those are great benefits! Is there a specific time of year you’d recommend for starting music lessons, like spring or summer, or does it matter?

Annie: Honestly, anytime your child shows interest is the perfect time to start. Whether it’s spring, summer, or during school breaks, it’s always a good time to begin their musical journey.

Felicity: That’s great advice. Thank you, Annie!
