Transcript from the video:
Felicity: Hi, my name is Felicity, and today I’ll be interviewing Annie, founder of 88 Keys Music Academy. Hi, Annie!
Annie: Hi, hi!
Felicity: Thanks for having us.
Annie: Of course!
Felicity: Can you give me a little background on your relationship with 88 Keys Music Academy?
Annie: Sure! Hi, everyone, I’m Annie, the founder and CEO of 88 Keys Music Academy. We’ve been in business for about 12 years, and we love helping kids and parents. It’s very rewarding to see how our students progress over the years.
Felicity: Awesome, thank you! Right now, it’s winter break, and people might be thinking about starting something fun, like learning piano or drums. Do you have any recommendations for the best piano songs for beginners?
Annie: Oh, absolutely! For younger beginners, a great place to start is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. It’s a traditional favorite, very simple, with a repetitive melody using just a few notes—perfect for absolute beginners.
Another great one is Ode to Joy by Beethoven. It’s a very recognizable melody and helps students develop their technique.
A timeless favorite is Minuet in G by J.S. Bach. It’s easy to play and great for developing hand coordination.
A fun and playful option is Chopsticks. Kids love this one because it’s simple and cheerful.
For those looking for a bit more of a challenge, Clair de Lune by Debussy is a great choice. While more advanced, it’s a rewarding piece for beginners to aspire to and work toward.
Felicity: Do you have a favorite song that beginner adults might enjoy practicing?
Annie: Yes! For beginner adults, I’d recommend either Ode to Joy or Minuet in G. These pieces are familiar, structured, and not too intimidating, making them enjoyable to learn.
Felicity: Thank you for sharing those recommendations! Whether you’re enrolling a child in lessons or learning as an adult, those are some great beginner-friendly songs.
